Everyone has had that awkward moment when you get into your car, or go to the gym, and you can't find a worthwhile song. The radio is jam packed with the same six songs that they put on repeat shuffle. Lets face it, you need some music.

Pandora Radio has been around for quite a while. It's the Google of online radios. It "knows" what music you like, and you are destined to find a couple of great songs to listen to. The thing you probably don't know, is how easy it is to get.

What is Android?

Due to Android open source software, the Android Market is an unlocked treasure chest waiting for you to open it.

I bet you're thinking right now, "There's no way I can create an app that would hit mainstream Android Market."

I too thought that, and did a little investigating. Via Youtube or even just Google, I have found countless tutorials and walkthroughs on mastering a developer's main program, Android SDK. From there you can make any type of app you desire, from games to entertainment apps.

I haven't done a ton of research, but I believe you need some sort of JavaScript knowledge or at least the ability to quickly adapt and grab certain parts of code from tutorials.

I have played a little bit with it, in hopes of creating an app for the site in the future, and am pleasantly surprised with how much of the community makes it easy to learn and adventure with it. I would really recommend checking it out if you are into that kind of stuff or like learning.

The past couple of days I came across my old Play Station 1 (PSX in the internet realm). After I played it for about a half an hour I got an idea.

What if I could play this on my Android smart phone. After little searching I discovered something known as an emulator. People have changed the compatibilities of the greatest classics of all time, such as the Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, PSX, and more!

*I do not condone illegal methods of using Emulators and ROMs to pirate games you have not purchased.

Lair Defense: The Best Thing Since ROBO Defense

It has been brought to my attention that a lot of people are unaware of the full potential that they have in their hands and pockets for most of the day. The Android smart phone that is in their possession is one of the most powerful things they own.

You are probably wondering, "Well if it's so powerful, why would I need to root it?"

Phone companies, while developing a phone, can either release the phone when they need to (if they think it will profit, or there is other competition being released), or they can work out all of the kinks and optimize it. Sadly enough, they rarely get optimized. That's where rooting come in.

Rooting is possible by a developer (thanks to the fact that Android is open source software). Think of the developer as the phone companies working overtime, and for no pay. They can tap into the full potential of your phone.

What rooting does:

Rooting your phone does a number of things. It lets you get Superuser access to your root directory (where you can customize things like appearance or performance). It also allows you to flash(flash is rooting terms for install) a different kernel, optimized for the ROM of your choosing.

ROMs. ROMs are what I referred to earlier as the developers overtime. They create their own version of Android, a new Operating System, that customizes your smart phone experience. It can change the color of your icons, change the app dock, whether or not you have an app menu, etc. It can do basically anything. With a ROM you can uncap the full potential of your phone.

After ROMs there is apps. There are a number of apps on the market that only work while rooted. Screenshot apps, overclocking apps, etc. Just by rooting you are able to do so much more in the Market.

Speed and performance. Kernels are the things that tell your processor what to do, and how to do it. By changing that, you can change your processor speed and voltages. Meaning you are able to do what you love to do, only faster.

Looks. If you have the latest and greatest Android smart phone, you can't deny wanting eye-candy. It's your desire, and the reason you enjoy Android so much. When you root, you can take any imperfections out. If you think it would look better with a blue theme instead of a green one, or you want your favorite color everywhere, you can do it. If you don't like the default layout of the phone, or the styling, you can change it too. You can even make it look like an iPhone. (Though I wouldn't know why you would.)

Customization. This ties into the looks and speed and performance sections. Being able to say that no one around has the same phone as you is nice (iPhone users reading this don't know what it's like). But the moment when you do see someone with your phone, and you can still say your phone is different, is priceless. It gives people warm fuzzies inside.

Now that you have read that and know that you want to root, what next? This is the part where you head over to XDA Developers, go to the top right, and type in your phone. From there, you can find guides on rooting, installing ROMs, and tips and tricks. The best ROMs are the ones that people try to port like MIUI, Cyanogen Mod, and others depending on your phone.

What is Android?"

This concept is unlike any other seen physically. This is the phone you see burly lumberjack with while on the job. Mechanics or construction workers. The phone might as well be a transformer in disguise. The HTC H1 concept was made by an Iranian named Saeid Khajevand, and it is far from generic.

The Android smart phone, HTC H1 is what you would call modest. It doesn't need the latest and greatest technology that would cook you breakfast in the morning. It does, however, fit the needs of the masses.

Allegations spread across the web about the claim of SOPA pulling its bill are false. According to ibtimes,

"Congressman Lamar Smith, the chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, announced Tuesday that the bill will rise again.

The Texas Republican said in a Tuesday statement that he expects the committee to continue marking up the legislation in February."
Anti SOPA

SOPA and PIPA both are underway and going to go through. Major internet companies such as Wikipedia, Google, Ebay, and other top internet icons are protesting tomorrow (January 18, 2012) by shutting down their websites for a day. For ways to help boycott SOPA, get the Boycott SOPA app from the Android app market.

You may have been wondering, "How long until an article using the website's name?"

Why Android?

Well here it is, just for you. There are many advantages to having an Android from any other phone (iPhone, Windows, Blackberry, ect.), and if you are the person that is looking for reasons to switch, look no further.

As you may or may not know, SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) is gaining popularity. With its newly found popularity comes the people for and against it. Luckily for us, we have Developers on the internet's side (against). In measures to stop SOPA dead in their tracks, developers have created an Android app that tells you if you are purchasing an item that is SOPA supported or intimately involved with SOPA. One of the major supports is GoDaddy, and since announcing they support it, they have lost over 21,000 domain users in a day. As you can tell, the internet is serious business.

Anti-SOPA

The anti-SOPA movement is gaining momentum. The main goal of the movement is to hit them where it hurts — their wallets.

What SOPA is aimed at doing is stopping the distribution of paid and copyrighted  information and products, also known as pirating.

That provides a massive problem.

What is Android?

Believe it or not, Android has become a rage. Developers seem to be in love with Android. And why shouldn’t they be in? After all, they get so much to do and create. It is to be noted that Android Applications are written in the Java Programming language. Also this Google’s Android happens to be one of the most exciting and innovative mobile platforms.

Android

And since it supports Java language, developers are able to run the third party applications on Android platform. Developers are also utilizing the full potential of the beta version of the Android SDK. Herein, they get an access to a wide-range of useful libraries and tools that they use for developing rich applications. It’s a big world of Android. And, so many things to do, experiment, and create.

One more thing – Remember that Android doesn’t see any difference between the phone’s core applications and third-party applications. And, this makes Android providing a vast area of application category, such as Internet Application, Communication Applications, Utility Applications, Travel Guides Applications, Office/Business Application, Fun & Entertainment Applications, Games, and a lot more. A lot more! Or, shall I say that sky is the limit when you work with Android Operating System.

Android Application Development and You

If you want to outsource your Android Application Development Project in India, there are several great companies in line. Actually there will be hundreds of such companies but not all are competent enough to deliver you results. So, you need to do a bit of market research for finding a suitable company for your needs. See them online. Contact them through e-mails or fill up their contact forms. You can even call on their given contact numbers.

Talk to them and ask for price quotes. Once you’re satisfied with the price element and the previous work of the company, you can choose your partner. Make sure that you see the previous work of your chosen company so that you have a rough idea of the quality of work you can expect for business.

The new Motorola Razr is one of the most impressive mobile devices ever released. Not only does this model boast stunning looks and some great software but it also has a range of accessories available that enhance the appeal of the device. We take a look at what additional options you can add to your Razr handset to extend the functionality of the phone.

Motorola RAZR

Last year Motorola launched the excellent Atrix device which could be linked to a dedicated laptop dock to turn the handset into a portable computer. The public loved this idea so it is no surprise to see the same option available with the new Razr. The improved Laptop 500 Pro offers a large 14 inch display and a full Qwerty keypad which effectively converts the Razr phone into a fully functioning netbook. Beneath the keypad the dock features a large touchpad which enables you to navigate the mouse pointer around the screen in a similar manner to a conventional portable computer. The Laptop 500 Pro offers a wealth of connection options that enable the unit to be paired with a variety of computer based accessories. An ethernet port allows an internet connection to be plugged directly into the unit rather than relying upon a 3G or WiFi service. Two USB ports are also featured which can be used to connect devices such as printers and external hard drives and a VGA terminal means that the equipment can be easily linked to a projector system. Despite the Razr handset offering a micro SD card slot the docking option also sports a full size SD card slot which is perfect for transferring material from a dedicated still camera or camcorder.

The hardware available for the Motorola Razr is impressive but it is also backed up by some excellent software. The model includes a Weptop application that customises the user interface so that it is much more suited for use on a large screen than the standard Android UI that you use on the phone itself. The interface uses a number of windows to display various programmes in a similar manner to what we expect from a conventional laptop. Along the bottom of the screen the user is presented with a number of shortcuts to applications that are installed. Web browsing on the Razr via the Laptop 500 Pro is also impressive as the phone sports a desktop version of the Mozilla Firefox browser to give a very satisfying and familiar online experience.

The Motorola Razr is one of the best mobile devices currently available thanks to some superb specification and stunning looks. What this phone also offers which many of its main rivals do not is access to accessories such as the Laptop 500 Pro which transform the phone from a mobile device into a fully functioning portable computer. This further adds to the appeal of this outstanding model.

Skype, the world's largest web-chatting company is now mobile. For any Android that has a front facing camera, there is Skype.

The reason I am just now posting an article on the topic is, tegra-2 mobile devices (dual core processing) did not have the ability to access Skype. Recently, that has changed. Now we all are free to enjoy conversations with someone without having the stare at a wall.

So after personally typing out extensive responses to peoples' questions regarding why their USB storage isn't working, I decided to make an article addressing the very general issue.

Android

First off, if for some reason your computer is "finding drivers" or trying to install new drivers and fails, do this:

1. Go to google, and type in your phone's name followed by "driver" and your version or Windows or "MAC" (for example, my phone is the LG G2x so I would type in "LG G2x driver Windows 7"

2. Find the most recent driver online and then download it to your computer.

3. Install onto your computer

4. Plug in your phone via USB

5. Check "Allow Mass Storage" from Settings -> USB -> Allow Mass Storage (should be exactly this for most Android phones.)

If the above method does not work, or your phone gets recognized as a different name, like Android ADB interface or ect., then:

1. Right click My Computer

2. Go to Properties

3. Select Device Manager

4. Find whatever your phone is named under (Android ADB interface is a common one)

5. Uninstall the driver

6. Reinstall your phone's latest driver

These are the two most common issues Android users have with their phones, and unknowingly enough, a very easy fix.

I have just recently updated my Android Battery Optimization Guide to add Juice Defender and get rid off recommending Advanced Task Killer. The reason behind the switch is simple. I had no recollection that Juice Defender even existed, and through the Android Forums, I have learned that Advanced Task Killer is actually detrimental to your phone's ease of access, reliability, and approximated life.

Juice Defender

The reason you do not want a task killer is simple. Your phones are designed to shut off apps when the app is done servicing you. If it is still doing something (roaming for network, syncing, playing in the background) and you shut it off, when you go to turn back on the app that you force closed, the app has to finish what it was doing, then restart all together.

If your apps are force closing often and you're using a task killer, the task killer is the issue. In the time where the app is resuming where it left off and trying to reset, if the developer didn't code it specifically for that instance, odds are it will have no idea what to do and crash. To prevent this, do not use it. It's that simple.

Now onto reason why you need Juice Defender. As I stated in Android Battery Optimization Guide, Juice Defender limits (but not destroys) the data usage allowed per app, depending on the settings you set. You can, however, permanently restrict the usage of network data. I do not recommend this, due to the need for network on your apps (Which is why they use it in the first place).

I just started using it, so I have not untapped the full potential as of right now, but in the past week I have been using it, my battery life has increased by about 10-15%. Just from the app. What I am basing this on is when I go to bed, I check my battery life (yes, my phone lasts the entire day, huzzah). Before Juice Defender, I had from 8-16%, now I have anywhere from 27-39%. Quite the improvement if I do say so myself, and it doesn't destroy, compromise, or mess with your phone.

As always, feel free to subscribe via email, I have a lot to talk about, a lot to tell people, and a lot of time to do so. Android Advantage.

I have learned today that along with giving us quality phones, Android is logging our appearance. After reading a recent article, 30% of all male Android users have freckles, leaving the other 70% with at least slightly cleaner skin.

Mr. Android

Mr. Android is all of the statistics from 2011 combined into a single man. Studies from Bluestacks.com show an "infographic" that is 36% American, 28% Asian, and 27% European. Along with these is 37% of a pair of glasses.

The profile also indicates that 47% of male Android users have black hair, 38% brown hair, 9% blonde, 3% red, and 3% "other."

Out of the survey takers, 72% had a normal sized head, the other 18% (me included), had an abnormally large head. The majority wore a casual t-shirt (71%) and the other 29% dress-shirts. In correlation, 38% record using their phone for work, leaving 62% for personal uses. We have a lot of toy lovers.

Speaking of toys, 9% report having an Android tablet but not a phone and 33% have never bought an app! Lastly, Mr. Android (the average Android male) uses 582MB of data.

More random stats are:
  • 63% have a significant other
  • 62% wear jeans
  • 45% wear a watch
  • 41% wear sneakers
  • 21% wear dress pants
  • 13% have more than 50 apps
  • 6% wear khakis
  • 5% wear flip-flops
Am I the only person that is glad to see that over half of Android phone using males are studs with girlfriends? Lets break this whole thing down.

We wear a t-shirt and jeans, a watch, sneakers, clean skin, and black or brown hair. And we have a girlfriend. Sounds about right to me!

For the complete picture of what I have put above, with more stats, go to Bluestacks.
